The Rise was the winning proposal for “Site J,” a property included in New York State’s Vital Brooklyn Initiative, a comprehensive community development effort to mitigate chronic social, economic, and health disparities launched in 2017.
To advance these goals, the design team focused on four key and overlapping strategies: High-level Sustainability, Design for Health and Wellness, Active Design Principles, and Trauma-Informed Design.
The development team was led by certified WBE Xenolith Partners LLC, with nonprofits Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), and the Brownsville Partnership. Social services are provided by the nonprofits Women’s Prison Association and the Osborn Association along with programs by Community Capacity Development. Project EATS will run a community garden on the main roof terrace.
