Murphy Manor Apartments is located approximately 40 miles north of Manhattan along the Hudson River, in Haverstraw, NY. The project is a 26-unit affordable rental building financed by the New York State Department of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) and is designed to fit into its suburban village setting. The building’s unique design is articulated with a distinctive corner ‘tower’ which functions as a visual anchor for this L-shaped plan.
The apartment building will rise 3½ stories and will contain a majority of 2-bedroom apartments and will include a laundry room and community facility on the first floor. Two units will be fully handicapped accessible and two other units have been designed for the visual and hearing impaired. In response to the sloped nature of the site, the 59-car parking area located at the rear yard is split into two terraced areas. The rear yard also accommodates a children’s play area and will be generously landscaped with native trees and plants creating natural buffers along all the property lines and providing shade control to the building and parking areas.
