In 2014, the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation engaged MAP to execute an in depth study of the Bronx Harlem riverfront north from the Third Avenue Bridge to the 145th Street Bridge. The analysis built upon the vision and goals developed by the Department of City Planning during its Lower Concourse rezoning process and the results of our analysis was a result of the New York State Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) grant that SoBro received that year. Our study covered the areas of Infrastructure; Program, Land Use & Zoning Analysis; Climate Resiliency; Waterfront Design & Access; Design Standards & Guidelines; and Urban Design Analysis.
Our research addressed the existing conditions of the Special Harlem River Waterfront District and what modifications and interventions were needed to improve the area and permit development. Our deliverables included Lot-by-lot Studies, Assemblage Study, Waterfront Design & Access Plan, and Best Management Practices to Minimize Impacts on Natural Features.
