The Dorado is a new-construction, rental apartment building on Third Avenue in the Melrose Commons section of the Bronx. Designed to be affordable to residents making up to 60% of Area Median Income (AMI), Dorado is being developed by a joint venture that includes local community organization Nos Quedamos, and is financed through New York State Department of Housing and Community Renewal (NYS DHCR).
Designed in conjunction with its sister building located directly across the street, Dorado is part of a ‘gateway’ marking the southern edge of the Melrose Commons neighborhood. Its most striking design features include a dramatic glazed brick fin extending from the façade of the building, and a glazed brick ‘cube’ detail accenting the bulkhead. The Dorado contains 58 generous rental units over almost 60,000 square feet of residential space. Additionally, there is 6,000 square feet of commercial space in the building’s ground floor.
