Magnusson Architecture and Planning, PC and Fernando Villa receive awards at the 2014 AIA NY Annual Meeting
The American Institute of Architects New York Chapter awarded its prestigious Andrew J. Thomas Housing Award to Magnusson Architecture and Planning at its 147th Annual Meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Center for Architecture. Fernando Villa, AIA, MAP’s Associate Principal, was also awarded the Vice President’s Citation for Design Excellence at the same event.
The Andrew J. Thomas Pioneer in Housing Award is given to a firm, individual or project in recognition of the principle that design can and should elevate individual’s daily lives.
MAP is a thought leader in urban revitalization projects and in creating a foundation for vibrant and sustainable communities. The firm is dedicated to assisting non-profit groups, municipalities, and developers to reshape neighborhoods and to improve their residents’ quality of life. After nearly 30 years of practice MAP continues to push the envelope for urban housing and mixed-use design and invent new ways of planning urban neighborhoods. – AIANY
The AIANY presented Fernando Villa and Peter Bafitis, Principal of the firm Rothzeid, Kaiserman, Thomson and Bee, with the Vice President’s Citation for Design Excellence Award for all of their hard work leading the Housing Committee.
This award recognizes how the Housing Committee has brought new enthusiasm and energy to the housing issue at a time when the provision of affordable housing has become one of the most challenging issues of our time. By its leadership and new programming the Housing Committee is showing again how architects can contribute to this important social change.
