Located in a rapidly changing, mixed-use area of Bushwick, this NYSERDA Building of Excellence award-winner will offer 94 units of affordable senior housing. Designed to meet passive house standards the building is capped by a large solar canopy and will ensure low energy use and superior indoor air quality through highly efficient mechanical systems, a robust building envelope and meticulous material choices.

To fit an architectur­ally diverse context, the building’s exterior will be clad in a contemporary and sustainable fiber reinforced concrete rainscreen. Varied setbacks from the street create areas for outdoor seating at the entrance, as well as landscaping, which in turn, provides privacy for first-floor apartments. Large windows bring daylight into the apartments, circulation spaces and expanded elevator lobbies with lounges on every floor. Rheingold Senior Housing will also include a large rear garden in close prox­imity to the community room and lobby.
