This project encompasses a 300-block area in the southern portion of the borough roughly bounded by East 147th Street and East 165th Street, The Harlem River and St. Ann's Avenue. With community participation as an essential component in planning, and under the leadership of the Urban Assembly, the project integrates housing, open space and urban design with economic development, human services, education, and transportation into a comprehensive plan for the revitalization of the civic core of the Bronx.
The Bronx Center project is sponsored by the Office of the Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer and chaired by Richard Kahan of the Urban Assembly. Other participants include the Municipal art Society, the Pratt Institute Center for Community and Environmental Development, the Consumer Farmer Foundation, the Parks Council, Hostos Community College, the Institute for Urban Family Health, the City University Urban Transportation Research Institute, Community Boards 1-4, the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation as well as hundreds of Bronx residents.
