Magnusson Architecture and Planning was selected, along with the development team of ARCTAC, by the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem to design a mixed-use complex of community center, senior housing, and market rate residential condominiums utilizing a substantial portion of the existing former school in Upper Harlem in Manhattan. The firm of Terrance O’Neal, Architect, is serving as co-designers for the community center portions of the project.
The 50,000 square foot center for the Boys and Girls club will have a competitive gymnasium at its heart with activity rooms, after school classrooms, exhibition space, rental space for neighborhood non-profit groups and an auditorium to serve program needs and the community of upper Harlem. The main entrance will be through the articulated entry of the school on West 145th Street.
The 16 story residential portion will have a forecourt entry on 146th Street with two levels of parking below grade. Thirty units of Senior Housing are provided on the first four floors above the ground floor lobby spaces. Above that, 82 market rate units are provided with a mix of one, two and three bedroom unit types. These units will be afforded exceptional views of the Hudson River and Manhattan.
