Prospect Plaza is part of the New York City Housing Authority's plan to transform the existing Prospect Plaza Homes development under the Federal HUD HOPE VI Program. The project is the second phase of NYCHA's goals to create a master plan and revitalize this three block area.
This multi-family building, designed to resemble a series of townhouses, occupies one entire city block in the Ocean Hill/Brownsville area of Brooklyn, New York. Co-sponsored by NYCHA, as well as th NYC HPD, HFA and the NYS DHCR, this building contains 151 one to three-bedroom rental units with 2,500 square feet of retail space at its base.
The building appearance is a fusion of traditional Brooklyn brownstone design with more modern elements within the setback to revitalize the community with a more refreshed appearance. Canopied entrances with front stoops employ colors to differentiate between residences, and rear yards and outdoor areas afford residents greater community interaction.
